Americans have various and diverse means of entertainment in form of hobbies, interests, and sports. Basketball and football are favorite sports. Interests revolve from collecting stamps to skydiving. Diversity is quite welcome and even encouraged. The great outdoors is like a vast canvas of which to paint and reflect their personality.
Outdoor activities such as barbecues, swimming, hiking, nature walks and the like are very common in any American family. But the most traditional outdoor activity that many enjoy is camping. It usually lasts from one to several nights outdoors and involves sleeping in tents or cabins, stargazing, sitting beside a roaring fire, and leaving behind urban living and the stresses of the daily grind. Most children enjoy camping and is exposed to the activity at early ages. There, they are taught different survival skills and, as a result, become more independent. Adults, looking for a break from the drone of the city, go camping and indulge in ‘roughing it’. Many of them bring along camping equipment such as camping chairs, sleeping bags, and portable stoves like the reliable Optimus stove. Camping provides necessary relief for any person as proven by the fact that many still enjoy and cater to this fun and fulfilling recreational activity.

I’m roasting the fish I caught for dinner by the river while sheltered by the canopy of tree tops above me. I hear a woman’s scream. I run towards the voice fast! I see the most beautiful woman I have ever laid my eyes on but she is afraid. She is being attacked by a bear! I run back towards my dinner, grab it and go back to the bear! I catch its attention with the fish. The bear sniffs and responds. I throw the fish as far away as possible but making sure the bear sees it. It lunges toward my dinner and we are safe. I rescue the beautiful woman and she rewards me with a kiss.
“Honey, wake up. Please help me with dinner?” I woke up from a dream with a smile on my face. The beautiful woman in my dream is actually my wife. I stand up and set up the Primus camp stove we brought along for our trip. I whistle as I prepare dinner because dream or not, I still end up with the beautiful damsel-in-distress.

For me, the best place in the world is on top of a mountain. There, I feel closest to God. It’s a place where I get to totally relax and recharge my batteries. Climbing a mountain is fun and exhilarating. It’s a workout. When you get up a mountain you’re spent. You need a hot meal. For a hot meal get a portable stove. For me, backpacking stoves are an essential part of my gear.
Backpacking stoves will allow you to cook and heat your food. There are many kinds of stove powered either by butane or propane. Butane stoves don’t work very well in high altitudes. I use butane for fishing and hiking trips. For high altitude cooking use a propane stove.

I love the outdoors. When I’m outdoors I feel free. I try to spend weekends camping or hiking. The only downside to camping outside is the food you eat. I don’t expect gourmet but I do want to eat good food. To make the food appetizing I try to cook or heat it using a portable butane stove.
A portable butane stove is a good gadget to have outdoors. It allows me to heat or cook food. My first couple of climbs all I ate was bars and gel and some chips. Good thing I discovered portable butane stove. It’s small enough to carry in the backpack and it’s not so heavy.

When going camping you have to bring camping equipment with you. Deciding what to take can be determined by finding out what kind of camper you are. There is the minimalist camper who can get by with the minimal amount of camping gear and takes only the basics with him. This type of camper tries to make their outdoors experience as best as they can. Then there is the gear-oriented camper who wants to be comfortable and be prepared for anything.
I fall in the gear-oriented category. During my camping trip I took a lot of gear with me as I am a creature of comfort. For example, with all the propane camp stoves out in the market, I would rather cook my food using a stove than using a fire. My wife, on the other hand, is of the minimalist type. It really depends on the camper on how much or little gear they want to take with them when going camping.

Camping can be a lot of fun for the family. It can be at the foot or the top of a small mountain or hill. It could be in the wilderness. Or it could be beside a lake. Camping can be done in a lot of places. And although location can be important, being together with the people you love is more crucial. It’s more fun to be with family on adventures like this.
But when going camping, the family should remember to bring the essentials. The tent should be the primary concern. It should fit all family members. If they are camping beside a lake, it would be fun to bring fishing gear. It would even be more fun if the family had a boat. As for the catch, some camping cookware should be brought along to cook the fish.

One of the most important items in your checklist when you are backpacking would be food. These are typically ready-to-eat foods or those that require minimal preparation. However, most people would find ways to bring camping grills for more sumptuous meals outdoor. They are usually compact, lightweight and can easily fit in backpacks or coolers.
The kind and size of camping grills greatly depend on how many people you intend to feed. Some people keep these in the backyard for small barbeques. Amongst their different types, those that are fueled by propane of charcoal are still the most popular. Charcoal grills are commonly smaller and consist of pans, grates and detachable metal legs. Propane grills on the otherhand, consist of propane burners and powered by propane containers.

It’s always fun to prepare and eat freshly grilled food. However, it is difficult to start the charcoal burning. This is where a fire starter comes very handy. This tool is also perfect for other house tasks such as fire places or barbeque pits. Campers and hikers make it a point to bring this so they will be assured that they will be kept warm at night.
There are different materials that you can use as fire starter. You can use a magnifying glass which you can align to the sun and dried grass or birds nest underneath. Fire can also be created out of steel wool and a battery by touching the top end of the battery to the wool and it will catch on fire. Some use magnesium fire starter which is known to create fire very fast.
