Camping With the Kids

It was our kids’ first camping trip ever. My three children, Jack, Jamie and Sam were all excited. They each had their Mountainsmith backpacks with them. These are actually my old ones but it’s still very good. Jack also had some of our other camping gear – such as a tent. Jamie also helped carry a small tent. Sam is still too little but she helped in lugging around some of our smaller items.

It was a great bonding experience for us. We stayed out for just three nights. The weather was beautiful. We had “roasting marshmallow sessions”, “smores sessions”. Jamie even caught her first fish! We are so looking forward to our next camping trip.

Enjoy a week-long camping trip with your family and friends. During the planning stage, it is important to know the camping gear you will be hauling in to your pack. Camping backpacks are not created equal. Each pack has its own limitations and advantages. There are packs that are ideal for men, while some are specially designed for women hikers. The compartments are designed to cater to an individual user’s needs and movements.

Panel loading types are packs that can be accessed via the side just like in a conventional traveling bag. On the other hand, top-loading packs are accessed through the upper part of the pack. With these kinds of packs, one must strategically plan the loading system of gears. One common rule among hikers and campers is that the weight of the load should be placed accordingly. Alternately put light materials on the bottom first and the heavy ones on top until the pack is filled.
