Folding vs. Fixed Blade Knives
May 3rd, 2010
Carry a needed tool out in the wilds without the dangers of being accidentally cut by a blade. A folding pocket knife has many advantages over the fixed blade knife. It is usually smaller and lighter and can be attached to almost any part of the body.
The most familiar opening mechanism for a pocket knife is called the nail pull. The blade can be drawn out by inserting a fingernail into a shallow mark in the knife blade and opening it on its hinge. Another mechanism is the thumb lug opener. This has a raised knob on the blade so that the thumb can easily swing the blade open which allows for quick, one-handed knife opening.
