What Type of Camper Are You?

When going camping you have to bring camping equipment with you. Deciding what to take can be determined by finding out what kind of camper you are. There is the minimalist camper who can get by with the minimal amount of camping gear and takes only the basics with him. This type of camper tries to make their outdoors experience as best as they can. Then there is the gear-oriented camper who wants to be comfortable and be prepared for anything.

I fall in the gear-oriented category. During my camping trip I took a lot of gear with me as I am a creature of comfort. For example, with all the propane camp stoves out in the market, I would rather cook my food using a stove than using a fire. My wife, on the other hand, is of the minimalist type. It really depends on the camper on how much or little gear they want to take with them when going camping.

When going camping, you will need to determine what things you already have and those that you need to purchase. That’s why before making a trip to the campsite you need to make a checklist. Start with the basics. You will need a tent (a Eureka tent, for example), sleeping bag, stove for camping, food, water and a first aid kit. The rest of your gear would determine what kind of camper you are.

You have to ask what kind of camper you are. Are you the type that can go camping with minimal gear? That would make the basic list sufficient for the minimalistic camper. If you are the gear-oriented camper then there are a lot of items you could add to your list such as tables, chairs and other conveniences from home. That is why finding out what type of camper you are is important in determining what kind of equipment you bring with you.

Camping can be a lot of fun for the family. It can be at the foot or the top of a small mountain or hill. It could be in the wilderness. Or it could be beside a lake. Camping can be done in a lot of places. And although location can be important, being together with the people you love is more crucial. It’s more fun to be with family on adventures like this.

But when going camping, the family should remember to bring the essentials. The tent should be the primary concern. It should fit all family members. If they are camping beside a lake, it would be fun to bring fishing gear. It would even be more fun if the family had a boat. As for the catch, some camping cookware should be brought along to cook the fish.

Important Factors in Choosing a Tent

With school ending in a few weeks, it is time to plan for the family vacation. This is a time when children look forward to more time outdoors. It is also the time to get outdoor gear out of storage and check which are still usable and which are for throw away. If you are planning to go out camping, make sure that your camping tent is still in good condition. It is advisable to do that some weeks before your planned vacation. It will give you enough time to clean it up and fix any disorders if there are any.

If there is a need to buy a new tent, remember that different people prefer different features. Once space is determined, decisions have to be made regarding sturdiness, versatility and ventilation. Weight is an all important factor. Big Agnes seedhouse tent is popular for its weight feature. Different models provide generous internal space and superior weather protection. The best feature of all is that it maximizes efficiency while remaining light.

A Memorable Night

My kids and their cousins love hanging out in their grandparents’ extensive garden. My parents made sure to have a big grassy spot where their grandchildren can play to their hearts content. Most weekend afternoons, the garden would be filled with children playing all sorts of outdoor games.

Last week, my dad bought several play tents for kids. All seven grandkids were ecstatic. That night, we had a family cookout in the garden and pitched tents around a small campfire. Most of us ended sleeping there instead of going back to our homes. It was such a special night that everyone will remember for a long time.

Camping trips are always fun. You get to experience nature in its finest – tall, strong tress, green grass, fresh air, and clear waters. You’re having the time of your life when you roast marshmallows over the fire and sleep in a tent with a friend. You suddenly remember that you forgot something outside, and your flashlight’s battery, which you just bought the other day, is failing on you. The noises you’re hearing out in the dark are scaring you silly, and you wish you had a stronger battery…like a Streamlight battery.

Streamlight batteries are extremely popular for flashlights and digital cameras. Its longevity and affordability makes it a favorite among campers who need their flashlights working in the middle of the night. Some types of Streamlight batteries are the lithium batteries and the rechargeable battery stick, which can last 1 ½ hours on full charge. It also has a shelf life of approximately 10 years. With these batteries, your flashlight will never fail you again.

A suitable shelter is one of the most important elements in any backpacking trip. So use a backpacking tent which is a specially designed shelter that can withstand the toughest environments Mother Nature can offer. Strong winds and cold temperatures in high altitude environments can be blocked by special shell nylon fabrics that repel such weather.

These tents are made from lightweight materials of cordura nylon shell. The stitches are all vulcanized seam sealed to prevent water and moisture from penetrating the tent. The poles are also made from lightweight aluminum tubes that are collapsible for compactability.

Folding vs. Fixed Blade Knives

Carry a needed tool out in the wilds without the dangers of being accidentally cut by a blade. A folding pocket knife has many advantages over the fixed blade knife. It is usually smaller and lighter and can be attached to almost any part of the body.

The most familiar opening mechanism for a pocket knife is called the nail pull. The blade can be drawn out by inserting a fingernail into a shallow mark in the knife blade and opening it on its hinge. Another mechanism is the thumb lug opener. This has a raised knob on the blade so that the thumb can easily swing the blade open which allows for quick, one-handed knife opening.
