portable canopies

September 30th, 2009

My family and I love to go on out of town trips. We would go fishing, camping or sightseeing. Picnic trips are also a big thing for us. Because of this we have a couple of portable canopies. We also use it whenever I compete in my triathlon race or during my son’s football competitions.

Portable canopies are water resistant but we use it primarily for shade. During my triathlon races, my family would spend hours in the sun. Portable canopies are a lifesaver. They are easily installed and do not take up much space in the car. We also have a bigger canopy permanently installed in our house rest house in the mountains.

mosquito coil

September 30th, 2009

Spending the night outdoors is one of my ultimate joys. Camping, even just on the backyard, is so much fun. Something about being outside in nature and looking up at the sky seem to calm me down. It’s my form of relaxation. Of course, I always have a mosquito coil around.

A mosquito coil will ward of mosquitoes. Being eaten by mosquitoes is no joke. Not only can it be life endangering (mosquitoes are the number one animal killer in Africa) it is quite bothersome. Sleeping with mosquitoes around is almost impossible. A mosquito coil will protect you as long as you are in the 10×10 feet range.

lightweight sleeping bag

September 22nd, 2009

The goal of any backpacker is to bring down the load he is carrying to the lowest weight possible. He balances this with not overlooking things that will make the trip safe and comfortable. The sleeping bag is the single biggest item that a backpacker needs to take along. He has to make sure that he is bringing a sleeping bag that will be just right for the adventure that he is embarking on. He should also try to bring a lightweight sleeping bag.

One big decision is whether he should go with a down sleeping bag or a synthetic bag. Down bags are much more compressible than the synthetic ones, so they take noticeably less space in the pack. They also can be rejuvenated by throwing them in the dryer with a shoe. This “fluffs” up the down. With proper care, a down sleeping bag can live on for years and years.

Camping tents

Taking time off the hustle and bustle of everyday’s routine can be considered a real treat. Some would unwind by listening to good music or reading a good book inside their rooms. Others would go for some recreational activities like swimming or hiking. Camping tents become their tentative shelter while they decompress away from home. They are available in different sizes, shapes, styles and designs.

Camping tents should be durable and be able to stand bad weather. They should have opening on all sides to keep good ventilation. It is also very important for camping tents to be water-proof to be able to keep the rain out. It is not really that difficult to choose one for yourself or for your family if you know the basic characteristics of a good camping tent. All you have to do is consider those basic safety features and the overall design will all depend on your style preference.

RV campsites

September 1st, 2009

You can also choose to “rough it out” in your RV. Having a vacation in RV campsites is like bringing along a smaller version of your home. You can travel in comfort and when you get to the site, there is no need to labor over pitching a tent. You will have the convenience of flowing water and with a mini kitchen in your camper, feeding a troop will not be a problem. Maybe, it’s not quite the same as ‘real camping’ but you have kids, remember? You cannot be too harsh in introducing them to the rigors of camping.

The success of a camping trip, whether you are staying in a travel lodge or in an RV depends of the amount of preparation and planning that was done before the trip. Be sure to check on your accommodations. If you are booking a lodge make sure that what you see in the pictures are what you will find when you get to the place. If you are going by RV, make sure that it is in good running condition and that the plumbing and cooking facilities are in order. And then, make plans for activities for the children. Children are always enthusiastic for new adventures; on the other hand they can also get easily bored. Be ready with something that they can do if the weather is not very cooperative and you are all forced to stay indoors.
