replacement tent poles

June 5th, 2009

I don’t particularly enjoy the outdoors. I have never liked camping and hiking. My idea of hiking is using the stair master at the gym. A few years ago, I unwittingly ended up camping when I signed up for a seminar. I was totally unprepared for it. I lost my tent poles even before I left for the trip. My boyfriend thankfully rushed to a nearby outdoor store to buy me replacement tent poles so that I would not end up sleeping without a tent.

When I arrived at the seminar site, we were informed that we had to each pitch our own tents. We also had to sleep in our own tents and sharing of tents was not allowed. My replacement tent poles saved my ass. I had never pitched a tent my whole life so it was lopsided and looked really pathetic the whole time. I was able to sleep in it despite how it looked. Needles to say, I couldn’t wait to get back in the city.

Optimus stove

June 5th, 2009

Summer is just around the corner. My friends who love to go hiking and camping have already bought their gear. One of them came over to my house to show me his equipment. He showed me his Optimus stove, his good ‘ol tent and other camping tools. I was not the least bit interested but he kept talking about how cool they were the whole time.

I was more interested in watching the movie on TV than listen to him bragging about his new stuff. After about an hour he showed how his Optimus stove worked. It looked really cool. I wouldn’t mind having one but when am I going to go camping? I’m not really the type to stay in tents and sing by the fire. I am the type who would save up for a holiday where I could stay in a five star hotel and visit the sights on a guided tour.

Camping is a favorite bonding activity for the family. Do it on Memorial Day weekend when you have a few days off from work and the weather is just perfect. Camping just seems to boost everybody’s appetite, so food preparation on the campsite is something that should be given much thought and planning. Camp cooking requires a different set of rules and equipment than those that we use at home. But if you are properly prepared, you will enjoy and process of camp cooking and eating what you have prepared.

You will need a few special tools and equipment. You will need some kind of gear to set up fire. You can choose charcoal or a gas stove, whichever is convenient for you. For cooking, a Dutch oven will be very fitting. You can put in your ingredients and leave it to slow cook. Be sure to bring a Dutch oven stand. kids sleeping bags

June 3rd, 2009

On my 10th birthday, my family took me on my first camping trip. I was with my whole family as well as my cousins, uncles and aunts. We went fishing and later on cooked and ate our catch. It was a magical experience, something I would never forget. Now that I have a son, I decided to treat him to the same experience. I went into a nearby outdoor store and purchased the necessary camping gears and this includes a sleeping bag for my kid. It was my first time to purchase one and choosing among the many choices in kids sleeping bags was quite fun and exciting.

Growing up, the sleeping bags I used were only available in one size which is for adults. It was so big, I had a hard time rolling it up let alone logging it around the camp site. My dad had to help me every time I had to roll up the bag. Even with his help, my rolled up bag looked like a huge drum bigger than my backpack.
