cabin tent

May 29th, 2009

People interested in sports find the need to indulge in activities that are increasingly difficult. Rafting, or whitewater rafting, for example, has caught on in recent years. It is a challenging recreational activity that uses a raft to navigate a river or other bodies of water. The reason why it has become popular is because it offers adrenaline-pumping activity for the adventurous. Only those who have tried it can describe the exhilaration that the sport provides.

Another come-on for the whitewater rafter is that he is in communion with nature. Nature lovers and solitude seekers love this sport because it does not require much from them. They just need to know how to swim and have the strength to navigate the boat. If you belong to the adventurous lot, why not pack your cabin tent and rubber boat and experience the fun of rafting. As in any sport, be aware of basic safety precautions that should be observed.

water purification tablets

May 28th, 2009

I am one of those people with a sensitive stomach. I am prone to hyper acidity, amoeba, and heartburn. When I was in college I contacted Hepatitis A. It is therefore important to me that the water I drink is pure and safe for drinking. I thought I was doomed to carry bottled water for the rest of my life until I discovered water purification tablets.

I read that these tablets were used during Hurricane Katrina. They could be used to cleanse water from lakes, ponds and other sources which were considered unsafe or drinking. Water purification tablets helped remove bacteria that might be present in non potable drinking water. In preparation for my camping trip, I am considering to bring these tablets along. They are definitely more convenient than lugging around a dozen or bottles of pre packed water!

thermos

May 27th, 2009

Save money by bringing your own coffee to work instead of patronizing those highly expensive coffee shops. Keep your favorite beverages warm even after several hours have passed. Pour your coffee or tea in a sealed thermos before your leave the house in the morning. You’ll still be able to savor your drink just the way you like later.

Another option for coffee drinkers to save is to ask the boss to install an espresso machine in the office. This will make it possible for all of you to start making your own gourmet coffee in the office without paying for more. Espresso coffee machines are more durable and larger than the old coffee machines that only makes regular coffee.

camping in Washington

May 27th, 2009

Living in the city is great for a single girl like me; I have almost everything I need nearby. This summer however, I am going camping in Washington with some friends. This is going to be the second time I have ever gone camping. The first time was back when I was about twelve in some resort a few hours from my home. Going all the way across the country for a weekend vacation is something I have been planning for quite some time now. Since I have been to a lot of tourist spots here in the east, this camping trip will be a welcome change.

Apparently, there’s more to Washington than Seattle. Camping in Washington is very popular. I’ve read that there are hundreds and hundreds of campsites all over the state. Washington boasts of valleys, mountains, rainforests and volcanoes. The weather is also as unpredictable as the trails and the sights. I have been told to bring warm camping attire as well as windbreaker jackets and raincoats. This trip should be interesting to say the least.

headlamps

May 15th, 2009

Your camping trip entails driving into the outback. Be prepared. Equip your vehicle with headlamps. It will illuminate the road ahead at night or in the daytime in times of low visibility. You will be secure in the thought that you are driving the back roads but there is no need to worry.

Size and weight are two obvious things that you should look for in headlamps. See that they are attached securely to your car. Remember, you will be driving in rough conditions. Then, you will want to look at the brightness of the lamp. How far are you able to see from where you are sitting in the driver’s seat? The type of bulb used has a major influence on its performance. Last but not least, don’t forget to bring extra batteries. You don’t want to run out in the middle of nowhere.

propane heater

May 15th, 2009

If you want to relax in your patio but find the weather a bit too cold, there is a solution. A propane heater uses pressurized gas to heat areas that are not well insulated. Often, they are portable and can be moved from place to place, wherever heat is needed. They are useful when parties are held in an open place like the patio or the garden. They are packaged in small boxes for small spaces or tall torchieres that feature hooded shields that reflect heat downwards.

There are so many different styles of propane heaters. Some are stylishly designed to camouflage the presence of the propane cylinder. Others are permanently mounted on the floor, wall or ceiling. As in any burning implement, care should be taken in its use. One very important thing to remember is that it uses oxygen to burn; therefore ventilation should be free flowing.

fleece sleeping bag

May 14th, 2009

Sleeping in the great outdoors will determine the overall outcome of your enjoyment during a camping trip. Some people are very discriminate when it comes to the comfort of where to sleep on. The most common sleeping bags available in the market today are nylon sheet sleeping bags with fillings. The fillings are either synthetic or down fills.

During summer, most people prefer synthetic fills because this is cooler and more lightweight. But during cold season, people choose down fill because it’s warmer. But some outdoorsmen go even further than mere temperature control. They favor the feel of a fleece sleeping bag covering their body. This type of sleeping bags replicates most the comfort of sheets at home.
